Optimization of human resources replacement processes
The Challenge
As part of the Pan-Canadian Hospital Initiative, this project brings AI into hospital workforce management to address a growing challenge: the massive time and effort spent manually handling staff replacements. The solution combines two powerful AI components: a predictive absenteeism model that analyzes years of human resources (HR) data to anticipate short-term absences by unit and role, and an AI-powered request management agent that automatically interprets, prioritizes, and routes replacement requests from multiple channels. By enabling proactive planning and automating large portions of the replacement process, the project will reduce last-minute disruptions, reclaim valuable HR capacity, and ensure the right staff are in the right place at the right time—ultimately improving care delivery and staff well-being.

“This project is about giving time back to our teams. By automating replacements and anticipating absences, we can focus more on supporting our staff and delivering consistent, quality care to our patients.”
