Intelligent Optimization of the Iron Ore Shipping Terminal Operation

The Challenge

This project will implement a real-time decision intelligence platform at the Société ferroviaire et portuaire de Pointe-Noire (SFPPN) in Sept-Îles, Québec, to make Canada’s iron ore export corridor more efficient and resilient. By combining predictive maintenance, simulation-based forecasting, and AI-driven optimization, the system will help improve ship-loading rates, reduce train cycle times, and minimize unplanned downtime — all without requiring major new infrastructure. Developed with Canadian partners SimWell, Lichens, and Baseline, the project will strengthen national supply chain performance, generate exportable intellectual property, and support workforce upskilling and long-term economic growth.

“Investing in intelligent operations is essential to securing the future of Canada’s resource corridors. By adopting advanced AI technologies, we are improving the reliability, efficiency, and competitiveness of our supply chain while creating lasting economic value for the region and for the country. This project positions SFP Pointe-Noire as a leader in modern, resilient industrial infrastructure.”
