Powering Government Insights with GenAI

The Challenge

Visual Defence is integrating generative AI into its CITYROVER platform to help municipalities better manage municipal infrastructure. By applying advanced large language models (LLMs) to infrastructure data, the project will automate asset inventories and identify previously undetected issues. Visual Defence will initially pilot the new technology with the City of Ottawa, as a flagship test and validation site, with further plans to deploy to 160 municipalities within 5 years. The project will involve development pertaining to customization of LLM models and prompt engineering. In total, Visual Defence anticipates $17M in value chain efficiencies for Canadian municipalities within 5 years of project completion. This initiative will improve service delivery capacity for cities while positioning Ontario-based Visual Defence as a leader in Canadian-built GenAI solutions for public infrastructure.

“This project lays the foundation to empower our cities with the tools that they need to proactively find and resolve issues, manage infrastructure more effectively, and apply resources where they are needed most, building the capacity for a more sustainable future for communities across Canada and beyond.”
