Demand Forecasting – Transport & Production Optimization
The Challenge
Soleno, a Quebec-based leader in sustainable stormwater management, is launching an AI project to improve its production planning and transportation logistics. Facing seasonal demand fluctuations, manual planning has led to costly overstock and shortages. This initiative introduces three interconnected AI modules: demand forecasting, production optimization, and transport route planning. Forecast accuracy will improve from 50% to 75%, reducing stockouts and aligning output with regional demand. A new operations research (OR) solver will optimize multiple production lines, incorporating tooling and resource constraints to support agile and resilient scheduling. A second OR solver will optimize truck routes, reducing the kilometres-to-revenue ratio by 15% in the Québec region by minimizing empty runs and consolidating deliveries.

“This project allows us to tackle key operational pain points—anticipating demand more accurately, streamlining production across multiple lines, and optimizing delivery routes to cut down on empty miles. It’s a strategic step forward in aligning our industrial processes with market realities.”
– Mathieu Poirier, Vice-President Supply chain, Soleno
